Monarchs

I have a friend who also loves butterflies and asked me to take pictures of the life cycle of the Monarch. Below is everything except the caterpillar. The amazing thing , for me, is the pupae looks like a beautiful jade and gold pendant. The caterpillar eats only milkweed, which make it taste awful to predators, creates the cocoon, turns to liquid and transforms into this beautiful being that is the Monarch butterfly. Monarchs are a migrating species and travel up to 3000 miles to winter in groves of Eucalyptus trees, where they hang in large clumps. It is incredible to see a eucalyptus grove full of Monarchs!
